Sobering Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking

Underage drinking remains one of the most pressing public health concerns facing Porter County. Early alcohol use can lead to increased risks of substance misuse, accidents, academic struggles, and long-term health consequences. The STOP Grant (Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act) supports community-led strategies that address these risks head-on.

About the STOP Grant

Strategic prevention that empowers youth and communities.

The STOP Grant — formally known as the Sober Truth on Preventing Underage Drinking Act — is a federally funded initiative that strengthens local capacity to prevent and reduce underage alcohol use.

Hub Coalition Porter County uses this grant to:

  • Expand youth and parent education programs on the risks of early alcohol use.

  • Support school-based prevention efforts that build protective factors.

  • Collaborate with law enforcement, schools, and community groups to reduce access to alcohol for minors.

  • Develop data-driven strategies that address underage drinking at its root.

  • Empower youth to become peer leaders and advocates for healthy choices.

This grant enhances our existing prevention work, aligning with Porter County’s Comprehensive Community Plan and the Local Coordinating Council (LCC) strategy to address substance misuse at a community level.

A Community Effort

Prevention works best when everyone plays a role.

The STOP Grant program is not just about funding — it’s about community collaboration. By partnering with schools, parents, youth leaders, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement, we’re building a united front against underage drinking.

Through trainings, awareness campaigns, and youth engagement activities, Hub Coalition Porter County continues to make measurable progress toward reducing early alcohol use and promoting healthier futures for young people.

Be part of the solution for Porter County youth.

Preventing underage drinking requires the support of the entire community. Here’s how you can help: Parents & Guardians: Participate in awareness programs and talk openly with your teens. Schools & Organizations: Partner with us to host prevention events or implement programming. Community Members: Volunteer your time, share resources, or advocate for prevention policies. Every action counts. Together, we can create a safer, healthier environment for the next generation.
