The ROOT Committee (Reducing Overdose and Opioid Threats) is dedicated to saving lives through education, prevention, and access to harm-reduction resources across Porter County. Through collaboration with healthcare partners, first responders, and community volunteers, ROOT provides tools that prevent overdose deaths and connect individuals to recovery.

About ROOT
ROOT works to reduce overdose fatalities by expanding public access to Naloxone, promoting safe-use education, and supporting harm-reduction initiatives countywide. The committee’s efforts align with the mission of Hub Coalition Porter County—to ensure that no one in crisis is ever far from help.
Root Committee Members
The ROOT Committee is composed of professionals and community advocates who bring experience from public health, recovery, behavioral health, and law enforcement. Together, they design and implement strategies that save lives and strengthen community resilience.



Meet the Root Project Manager
Samantha Aguilar serves as the Project Manager for the ROOT Committee, overseeing harm-reduction programs and coordinating with state and local partners to ensure access to lifesaving resources throughout Porter County.
A Certified Addiction Peer Recovery Coach II (CAPRC II), Samantha brings lived experience, compassion, and technical expertise to her role. She leads Naloxone training and distribution initiatives, manages overdose prevention data, and provides ongoing education to schools, businesses, and community groups. Her work ensures that harm-reduction tools are accessible, stigma-free, and backed by evidence-based best practices.
